A modern automobile is a complex machine composed of several subsystems that work together to power the vehicle, control and steer it and provide comfort for its passengers. Its heart is an internal-combustion engine that uses a volatile fuel to produce mechanical energy. This engine is cooled by air that passes through a radiator, which also produces the heat used to keep the passenger compartment comfortable.
A PROS AND CONS PERSPECTIVE
Automobiles revolutionized the way people live and worked in the United States by providing access to jobs and places to live, leisure activities and services like restaurants and motels. They also created new industries to manufacture the parts and fuel needed for the automobiles, as well as road construction. Millions of Americans now work in factories producing cars and in the service industry.
By the 1920s, automobile production had become a major economic force in America. Manufacturers like Ford innovated mass production techniques, and dozens of other companies entered the market. The automobile dominated the economy, driving economic growth and creating many spin-off industries and services, such as lubrication, rubber and then plastics.
The automobile also spawned a variety of new problems, including pollution, safety and cost. In the United States, automobiles are a leading cause of death and injury on the roads, causing millions of deaths each year. Automobiles consume a tremendous amount of fuel and are responsible for air pollution and draining dwindling world oil reserves.
Cars can be expensive to own and maintain, but they offer many benefits. One of the main benefits is that owning a car gives you the freedom to travel anywhere at any time, without having to wait for buses or rely on friends. Another benefit is that you have more privacy in your car, because you don’t have to share your space with other passengers.
