Entertaiment is entertainment or amusement that involves a performance. It can be as simple as a clown at a birthday party or a stadium rock concert. Often the entertainment hits on the things that the brain was evolved to deeply react to. This can include murders, backstabbing and other themes that are essential to how we function in the social world.
The word entertain comes from the Old French entretenir, which means “to hold together.” Today we use it to refer to theatrical entertainment as shows, visual entertainment as movies and television, and audio entertainment as music. It also encompasses recreational activities such as sports and games, and the creation of or appreciation of visual art.
