Entertaiment is a broad category of activities ranging from ceremonial activities, religious festivals and satire to sports, games and other recreational pursuits. While entertainment has a strong association with fun and amusement, it may also have serious or educational objectives. For example, children’s entertainment provides an essential form of learning through play; and adults’ entertainment often involves practicing skills such as cooking or fencing which once had practical applications, but are now performed for the benefit of spectators. The same story may inspire a performance in one medium, but then inspire another medium such as music (Scheherazade in the Persian professional storytelling tradition inspired composers like Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski), film or an innovative video game.
