Entertaiment is an important activity at all levels of society. It ranges from the personal choice of an individual involving a wide variety of pre-recorded products; to the organisation of a banquet to entertain two; to the presentation of a performance for thousands or even global audiences. Entertainment also takes many forms, from ritual to satire; and often has a serious purpose as in ceremonies, celebrations or religious festivals. A well known example is the story of Scheherazade from the Persian professional storytelling tradition, which has inspired a range of creative works including music (Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski), films and video games.
